Coffee in Ubud — Specialty Espresso & Turkish Coffee

Indonesia is the world's fourth-largest coffee producer, and Bali grows its own arabica on the slopes of Kintamani. This hub covers how coffee is served in Ubud and the traditions behind it.

Quick answer

Ubud's coffee scene runs from Indonesian single-origin filter to third-wave espresso. SkaZka Bali serves both, plus traditional Turkish coffee brewed unfiltered in a cezve and served with Turkish delight, daily from 07:00.

Indonesian beans, explained

Kintamani arabica is grown at 1,200–1,600 metres beside citrus trees, which lends a clean acidity people often read as orange peel. Sumatran beans are wet-hulled and heavier — earthy, low-acid, and better suited to milk drinks. Most good Ubud cafés will tell you which is in the hopper; it is worth asking.

Turkish coffee is a different drink entirely

Ground finer than espresso, brewed slowly in a copper cezve, never filtered, and served with the grounds settling in the cup. It is drunk in small sips, with water first to clear the palate and something sweet alongside. Let it rest two minutes after it arrives, and stop before the sediment.

Working from a café in Ubud

Ubud runs on remote work. Power outlets, reliable Wi-Fi and shade matter more than latte art. Mornings are quietest; most cafés fill between 11:00 and 14:00. Ordering food, not just coffee, is the local etiquette if you plan to stay for several hours.
