The three eating streets
Jl. Raya Ubud runs through the centre past the palace and market. Jl. Monkey Forest heads south toward the sanctuary and holds the densest run of cafés. Jl. Raya Sanggingan climbs northwest through Kedewatan, quieter and greener, with valley views — this is where SkaZka Bali sits, about seven minutes from the palace.
Timing, booking and transport
Many kitchens close between services, so 15:30 is the hardest time to find a full menu. Weekend dinner needs a booking. Ride-hailing works well in Ubud but the centre is congested from 17:00; walking is often faster within the core.
Eating well without chasing trends
The best meals in Ubud are rarely the most photographed. Look for kitchens that repeat a small number of dishes daily, publish their sourcing, and are full of returning guests rather than one-time visitors.
